Krew Guru for AI assistants: MCP server
Last updated:
Krew Guru runs a public remote MCP server at https://api.krew.guru/mcp. AI assistants can use it to search open maritime vacancies, read a vacancy, and turn a seafarer CV into a Krew Guru profile draft. No account or API key is needed. The service is free for seafarers (MLC 2006 Regulation 1.4).
How to connect
- Transport: Streamable HTTP, one address, POST only, plain JSON responses. No sessions.
- Protocol: MCP 2026-07-28. Clients on versions 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18 and 2025-03-26 connect to the same address with
initialize. - Authentication: none. No account, sign-up or API key.
- Claude: add the Krew Guru connector from the Claude connectors directory, or add a custom connector with the address above.
- Other MCP clients: add a remote (Streamable HTTP) server with the address above.
Tools
search_maritime_jobs
Searches open vacancies by rank, vessel type and joining date. Returns up to 20 published vacancies whose boarding date has not passed: salary range in USD per month (net), contract length in months and a vacancy_url on krew.guru.
get_maritime_job
Returns one vacancy by its vac_id: rank, vessel type and size, salary, contract length, boarding date and port, requirements (citizenship, English level, certificates, visas) and a vacancy_url.
create_seafarer_profile_draft
Turns the text of a seafarer CV into a Krew Guru profile draft and returns up to 5 matching vacancies. Krew Guru sends a 6-digit code and a sign-in link to the email in the CV (or to the email argument). The profile is saved only after the seafarer enters that code on krew.guru.
get_profile_draft_status
Checks a draft by the draft_token returned by create_seafarer_profile_draft: status, masked email, CV preview without contacts, handoff_url and matching vacancies.
Example requests
- “Find Second Engineer jobs on bulk carriers joining in mid-November.”
- “Tell me more about the first vacancy: salary, contract length and requirements.”
- “Here is my CV, create a Krew Guru profile and show jobs that fit me.”
What the server does not do
- It does not sign a seafarer in and has no tool for the 6-digit code from the email. The seafarer enters the code on krew.guru.
- It does not apply to vacancies. The seafarer applies on krew.guru through the vacancy_url.
- It never returns email addresses, phone numbers, passport or other document numbers, or company contact details.
Data and privacy
- Vacancy data is public and comes from the Krew Guru database.
- CV text sent to create_seafarer_profile_draft is parsed by an LLM provider (DeepSeek) to fill in the profile fields. No other third party receives it.
- A draft is kept for 24 hours. A Krew Guru profile is created only after the seafarer confirms the code sent to the email from the CV.
- The server receives only the arguments of each tool call. It does not see or store the rest of the conversation.
- Use create_seafarer_profile_draft only with the seafarer’s own CV or with their consent.
Full details are in the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use.
Limits
- CV parsing: 6 CVs per 10 minutes and 20 per day from one IP address.
- Emails with a code: 1 per 10 minutes and 3 per day to one address.
- Search returns up to 20 vacancies per call; use offset for the next page.
